Reference mineral solution for test kits (Ca, Mg, KH, K+)

Over time, test kit reagents may lose potency due to unfavorable storage conditions, high or low temperatures, and contact with oxygen. Therefore, the tests must be checked regularly on the basis of a stable standard.

The Tropic Marin ® Multi-Standard solution is a laboratory-designed and controlled solution using ICP-OES technology. This makes it possible to check the tests for calcium, magnesium, potassium and KH/alkalinity and, if necessary, to calculate a correction factor.

Advantages :

Easy control of the functionality and accuracy of seawater tests
A single standard to control several tests (calcium, magnesium, potassium and KH)
Works for all common market tests
The test can continue to be used thanks to the calculation of a correction factor.

Manual :

Perform the measurement according to the test instructions. This reference mineral solution replaces a sample of aquarium water. Withdraw the required liquid from the reference mineral solution with your test's dosing tool (usually a syringe) from the bottle's dosing chamber. Compare the result of your measurement (“measurement value”) with the ICP-OES value (“set value”) indicated on the bottle for the corresponding parameter. If the values match, the test is successful and you don't have to do anything else.

If the values do not match, you can determine a correction factor for the test as follows: Correction factor = Setpoint value / measured value. The future results of your aquarium sample measurements are then multiplied by this correction factor.

Regularly repeat the control of your test kits, for example, every 2 to 4 weeks.
