TROPICA Plant Growth Substrate is a nutrient soil placed under the gravel when setting up the aquarium. It ensures a healthy and sustainable growth of plants and does not influence the kH and pH of the water.
The substrate acts as a depot of long-acting nutrients and guarantees your aquatic plants vigorous and healthy growth. SUBSTRATE is a natural concentrate of clay and sphagnum to be used with gravel in the substrate when setting up the aquarium. Clay and sphagnum slowly deliver nutrients to plant roots while absorbing nutrients from the water into the substrate. This decrease in the amount of nutrients in the water reduces the chance of unwanted algae growth.
When setting up the aquarium, place a 1 cm layer of SUBSTRATE in the bottom. The table shows the dimensions of different standard aquariums and the recommended amounts of SUBSTRATE.
Then cover the substrate with at least 3-4 cm of gravel. This acts as a barrier between the concentrated SUBSTRATE and the water. When transplanting, position the plants as usual in the gravel. These will soon produce new roots in the substrate. When transplanting, avoid stirring the substrate as much as possible to avoid mixing clay and sphagnum particles in the water.
