Scaper's Soil is an active bottom substrate, specially designed for aquariums. It creates soft, slightly acidic water that most animals and plants from tropical regions like. Scaper's Soil is ideal for plant aquariums (especially aquascaping) and shrimp aquariums.

Scaper's Soil consists of 100% natural raw materials. Made from different carefully selected natural soils, it provides all the vital minerals and trace elements that aquarium plants need on a daily basis. The irregularly shaped grains, with a diameter between 1 and 4 mm, give a particularly natural appearance to the bottom substrate. Its light structure allows optimal water circulation in the bottom and a good grip of the roots of the plants. Scaper's Soil provides the perfect base for healthy, vigorous plant growth and gorgeous color. Mosses also benefit from it: this can be seen in the thick growth and the small intense green leaves. The dark black coloring creates an intense and lively contrast against the brilliant green of the plants.

Scaper's Soil effectively prevents algae growth, for three reasons:

  1. By its special nutrient formula: the nutrients are primarily beneficial for the plants and not for the algae.
  2. Through its function as a nutrient buffer: as in the case of a battery, the excess nutrients are extracted from the free water and only returned to the plants when needed.
  3. By the powerful stimulation of plant growth: indeed, aquatic plants that grow well are the worst enemies of algae.

Scaper's Soil has ion exchange properties. Thus, it lowers the pH and stabilizes it at a slightly acidic level (pH of 6.0 to 6.5 approx.). At the same time, it reduces the carbonate hardness (depending on the starting water down to almost 0 °d KH) and therefore noticeably softens the water. In addition, it serves as a natural source of humic and fulvic acids, without coloring the water. Scaper's Soil thereby creates water values that match the habits and natural environment of many species of tropical aquarium plants and fish. Example: Slightly acidic freshwater is ideal for most South American ornamental fish, such as neon tetras, angelfish or discus.

Despite the soft water, Scaper's Soil can also be used safely in combination with CO2 fertilizer, because the pH is stabilized by the substrate. Scaper's Soil guarantees crystal clear water and healthy living conditions. The porous surface provides the ideal substrate for the establishment of important cleaning bacteria. Thus, the entire bottom substrate becomes a huge biofilter. This creates optimal conditions for effective biological self-cleaning and therefore excellent water quality. At the same time, the substrate binds many harmful substances to extract them directly from the water. The granulate is cooked twice and therefore remains stable in water over the long term.

ALSO FOR SHRIMPS

Its ph and carbonate hardness reducing properties as well as its excellent filtration efficiency make Scaper's Soil the optimal substrate for rearing shrimp species that require slightly acidic soft water, e.g. ex. Crystal Red and Red Bee.

Thanks to the long-lasting solid grains, Scaper's Soil combines wonderfully with soil filters often used for shrimp farming. It speeds up the adjustment of the water to the ideal values and increases the efficiency of the filter. Thanks to the structure that is both light and solid, the bottom substrate benefits from an optimal supply of oxygen, which prevents the formation of foci of putrefaction. Its very porous surface forms an excellent colonization substrate for important microorganisms, particularly useful for the development of mini-shrimps. The color and design of the shrimp are very well highlighted against a background of Scaper's Soil. Especially the white, red or yellow shrimp literally shine in front of the dark black background.

Info on Andosol:

Scaper's Soil particularly promotes growth thanks to its natural andosol content. The term is made up of the Japanese expression an do which means "black ground" and the Latin term sol which means "ground". Andosols develop preferentially in mountainous and rainy regions on the basis of mineral-rich volcanic ash. The soils are characterized by a dark brown to black colour. They are particularly rich in nutrients, minerals and vital trace elements. At the same time, they have a high content of valuable humic and fulvic acids. Andosol soils are thus extremely fertile and are highly valued in agriculture.
