This high-end plastic measuring cylinder is transparent. It has a stable base and a spout. With a height of 36 cm , it is perfect for determining density using the Tropic Marin ® HIGH PRECISION HYDROMETER .
Now it is no longer necessary to stop the pump to take a measurement in the aquarium. Just take the density monitor out of the aquarium. Real child's play!
The Tropic Marin Hydrometer is a precision instrument for measuring density in aquariums. Tropic Marin ® offers a very high precision instrument. The instrument is made of mouth-blown glass. The measuring range is between 1.021 and 1.031. The maximum variation is only 0.001.
• | Density determination in saltwater aquariums with a hydrometer |
• | Height: 36cm |
• | Capacity: 500ml |
• | Made of transparent plastic (PP – polypropylene) |
• | With stable base and spout |
• | Molded graduations |
NOTE: “Density” is temperature dependent. As the temperature increases, the density decreases. Therefore, the measured water temperature must be 25°C to obtain a correct result.
• | Fill the measuring cylinder with a maximum of 400 ml seawater (water temperature = 25°C). |
• | The hydrometer should be dry and clean. |
• | Carefully place the hydrometer in the water until it floats freely. |
• | Now read the "density" on the blue part of the graduated scale of the hydrometer, at the level of the surface of the water and NOT at the level of the meniscus located higher on the edges! |
• | To avoid deviations in subsequent measurements, rinse the measuring cylinder well with fresh tap water or reverse osmosis water to remove salt residue after each use. |
We recommend different salinities depending on the type of aquarium:
Type of aquarium | Density at 25°C | Salinity in ‰ (psu) |
Fish-only aquariums (not invertebrates) | 1.023 – 1.025 | approx. 31 – 33 |
Coral aquariums | 1.025 – 1.026 | approx. 33 – 35 |
Shrimp | 1.026 – 1.027 | approx. 35 – 36 |
