For adsorption filtration - i.e. for the removal of harmful chemicals (chlorine, drug residues, etc.) - there is a specially treated carbon cartridge. Adsorption filtration is normally only needed at the start-up stage of aquariums or after treatment with medications . Under no circumstances should the filter cartridges be used for a long period (about 4 weeks) and then removed or replaced.
