Precision and Simplicity for an Essential Measurement
The Colombo KH test is designed to provide an ultra-precise measurement of carbonate hardness. With an easy-to-use dropper system, it displays clear results with a visible color change. This level of accuracy is crucial for maintaining a stable pH, especially in aquariums containing sensitive species. This reliable test is an asset to aquarists, who can easily ensure optimal living conditions for their inhabitants.

Ease of Use with Illustrated Instructions
Whether you are a novice or an expert in aquarium keeping, the Colombo KH test is designed to be simple and quick to use. Complete with illustrated instructions, it makes each step of the test easy. The integrated colorimetric chart allows immediate visual interpretation of the results. In just a few minutes, you can have a precise idea of the carbonate hardness, saving valuable time for regular monitoring of your aquarium.

A Key Value for Ecosystem Stability
KH plays a vital role in water stability by acting as a buffer for pH. This ensures balanced and suitable water for your fish and plants, reducing dangerous fluctuations. Maintaining a good KH level helps preserve the most fragile species and prevents unnecessary stress in your aquatic ecosystem. This Colombo test is therefore a preventative tool to avoid imbalances.

How to use the Colombo Kh Test?

General instructions

  • Always make sure the test tube is thoroughly clean before use.
  • Clean it thoroughly after each use so that it no longer contains any chemical residue that could distort subsequent results.
  • Take the water sample as carefully as possible.
  • Hold the vial upright when counting drops.
  • Make sure there are no air bubbles in the drops.

Test procedure:

  1. Take a 5 ml water sample.
  2. Add 1 drop of KH test liquid and shake the test tube. The water sample normally turns light blue, if it turns yellow, the KH of the water is less than 1°DH.
  3. Then add 1 drop at a time of KH test liquid and shake the test tube after each drop added, until the water sample turns yellow.
  4. The total number of drops needed to achieve the color change from blue to yellow gives the KH value in °DH, so 2 drops = 2°DH, 3 drops = 3°DH, etc.

For tests that involve drop counting, such as KH and GH, the value to be measured is reached when the color change occurs. The number of drops added to obtain this result must then be converted to obtain the actual value. This color change occurs within a range of 1 to 2 drops, during which time the water sample exhibits a transient color. The actual end point is reached when the color no longer changes, even if drops continue to be added. These Colombo tests are factory calibrated using professional tests; therefore, Colombo kits guarantee you rigorously accurate measurements!
