  • Determine the nitrite level for optimal plant growth or the origin of algae in freshwater and saltwater
  • Comparative laboratory system to compensate for the inherent color of the water: fill the test tubes with water to be tested, add the reagents to a test tube, place the test tubes in the support block, note the values on the color chart.
  • Use: new fresh water tank: once a week. New seawater tank: once a week. And in case of green algae problems.

Healthy pond or aquarium and living conditions close to nature

The correct water parameters in the aquarium/pond depend on the fish population and the plants present. Even if the water looks clear, it can be polluted. If the parameters are wrong, diseases or algae can develop in the aquarium or pond. To have a healthy pond or aquarium with conditions close to the natural environment, it is important to regularly check and adapt the water parameters.

For every water analysis, JBL offers quick tests or color tests. These tests calculate a specific parameter or several parameters at the same time. They identify algae problems and negative parameters of nitrates, nitrites, potassium, magnesium, etc.

Why test?

Nitrate is the end product of mineralization in the aquarium or pond. Even in relatively high concentrations, it is not harmful to fish, but it does have a negative impact on plant growth and the well-being of some fish species. On the other hand, too high nitrate levels promote the growth of unwanted algae when the water also contains phosphates in addition to nitrates.

Recommended nitrate level

  • Freshwater aquarium (community): 0-50 mg/l
  • Malawi-Tanganyika Aquarium: 0-50 mg/l
  • Planted tank with few fish (aquascaping): 10-30 mg/l Seawater aquarium: 0-20 mg/l
  • Basin: 0-10 mg/l
