  • Simple and safe control of ammonium (NH4) and ammonia (NH3) in aquariums and ponds. Verification of the biological balance (bacterial activity) in fresh water and sea water.
  • Comparative laboratory system to compensate for the color of the water itself: fill the glass test tubes with water to be tested, add the reagents in a test tube, place the test tubes in the block, link the values on the color chart and table.
  • Use: for new fresh water tank: once a day. For new seawater tank: once a week. And in case of disease or death of fish.
  • On the JBL/Thèmes/Aquarium or Bassin website, you will find detailed information on water analyzes and troubleshooting

Healthy pond or aquarium and living conditions close to nature

The correct water parameters in the aquarium/pond depend on the fish population and the plants present. Even if the water looks clear, it can be polluted. If the parameters are wrong, diseases or algae can develop in the aquarium or pond. To have a healthy pond or aquarium with conditions close to the natural environment, it is important to regularly check and adapt the water parameters.

For every water analysis, JBL offers quick tests or color tests. These tests calculate a specific parameter or several parameters at the same time. They identify algae problems and negative parameters of nitrates, nitrites, potassium, magnesium, etc.

Why test?

Nitrites appear during the degradation of proteins and ammonium by bacteria. They are normally then transformed into non-toxic nitrates. In aquarium and pond water, nitrites (NO2) should not be measured. If we measure it, it means that the bacterial process of degradation is disturbed; From a concentration of 0.4 mg/l, nitrites become dangerous, even fatal for fish because they block the transport of oxygen in the blood. Remedies: water changes and a good bacteria activator like JBL Denitrol or JBL BactoPond.

Recommended nitrite level

  • Freshwater aquarium (community): 0-0.2 mg/l Malawi-Tanganyika aquarium: 0-0.2 mg/l
  • Planted tank with few fish (aquascaping): 0-0.2 mg/l Saltwater aquarium: 0-0.2 mg/l
  • Basin: 0-0.2 mg/l Tests JBL ProAquaTest pour aquariums d'eau douce et d'eau de mer
