Why does water flow back into CO2 hoses?

CO2 is literally driven by a strong urge to dissolve in water. In the event of an interruption in the CO2 distribution in the aquarium (CO2 bottle empty, bottle valve closed, CO2 night shut-off activated, etc.), the CO2 still present in the hose will also dissolve in the water in the the aquarium. This results in a vacuum in the CO2 hose which sucks in the aquarium water.

The special CO2 backflow protection from DENNERLE protects all valuable CO2 devices, such as pressure reducer, CO2 bottle, CO2 night shut-off, etc., from damage caused by backflow.
