Fauna Marin Redupellets and the matching NPO pellet filter are a simple and effective tool for nutrient control in aquariums and ponds. Thanks to the special construction and the high quality of the pellets, the NPO pellet filter is particularly efficient and saves material.

Fauna Marin Redupellets are made of a 100% biodegradable biopolymer, specially designed for the breakdown of nutrients and also used in the treatment of drinking water. Fauna Marin Redupellets promote the growth of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, ensuring a controlled nitrogen cycle in the filtration system. The bacteria feed on the pellets and nutrients in the aquarium. Nitrogen and phosphates are also broken down, preventing algae growth and producing bacterioplankton for your coral's nutrition.

Pellet preparation

Soak the required amount of pellets in tap water for about 24 hours or pour boiling water over them, then leave them in water for 2 hours.

It is essential to dry the unused pellets again, otherwise they cannot be reused.

We recommend using REDU PELLETS in the Fauna Marin REDU NPU PELLET FILTER.
Be careful not to stop the filter for more than 8 hours, otherwise the pellets will decompose. It is very important that the return water flows over the side walls of the filter. Proper recirculation will re-enrich the water with oxygen that was used up during nutrient depletion.

Dosage

The starting dose is 20-30 ml per 100 liters of aquarium volume and can be increased as needed up to 100 ml / 100 liters.

After a few days, a slight turbidity in the aquarium water may set in, which disappears on its own after a few days.

After about 10-21 days, the first nutrient reductions can already be measured. At the latest after 8 to 12 weeks, a significant reduction in nutrients should be visible on the animals.

In the meantime, you can ignore high or unusually high readings - filtering pellets can affect water tests and temporarily lead to false readings.

In less than 3 or 4 months, the water level decreases little. Fauna Marin Redu granules ensure a slow and uniform reduction of phosphates and nitrates. The lower the values in the receiver, the slower the filter works.

The nutrient degradation process also reduces the volume of the pellets. Due to their high density, NPO Redupellets degrade but very slowly and you need far fewer pellets than most products on offer. Refill broken pellets regularly. Follow the same procedure as for restarting and water the pellets before use.

FAQs

Do I no longer need to change water?

Yes, you still need to do water changes. Filtering using pellets does not replace usual water treatment, e.g. B. by regular water changes. This not only removes nutrients and inhibitors, but also adds trace minerals and organic compounds essential for bacterial growth. Also with pellet filter, we recommend a weekly water change of 10%.

Are there individual pellets in the filter tank? Is it bad?

Due to the degradation of the pellets, some are very small and can be evacuated from the filter despite the protective grid. Simply vacuum them up with the next water change.

Why am I measuring high nutrient values?

The abrasion of bacteria and the possible presence of nitrites can irritate water tests. This usually happens within the first 2-3 months of starting pellet filtration. In addition to the measured water values, always pay attention to the condition of the animals - they are growing well, there is no reason for concern.

Why can't I measure nutrient degradation?

Either the filtration process is not yet fully started, or the nutrient supply is too high, or the tests still show incorrect values (see above). In old aquariums, extensive nutrient deposits have often formed, which can only be reduced after some time.

Check your tests with the Fauna Marin multireference and make sure the filter is positioned correctly.
You can also do a thermal phosphate test. The use of ozone, UV, certain medications and special coral dyes can reduce the effectiveness of bacteria on the pellets. In this case, we will be happy to advise you individually.

How many pellets are consumed regularly?

In an average 1000 liter aquarium, about 500 ml of pellets are consumed per year. Depending on the storage density, this amount may vary.

Some animals turn white - what is the reason?

Due to the growth of bacteria on the pellets, various trace substances are consumed. If they are missing, anemones and leather corals can react with a loss of color. In this case, you can replace the missing elements by adding Ultra Organic.
