SEACHEM DeNitrate 1 L is a porous, natural and economical filtration material with a high number of pores and an ideal shape that promotes both aerobic nitrification in the first millimeters of depth and anaerobic denitrification in the core. The material has a large specific surface to support a high density of bacteria. Other anti-nitrate materials on the market, such as zeolites and synthetic resins are quite limited and the main mechanism of nitrate elimination is anaerobic, unlike SEACHEM DeNitrate which also causes anaerobic denitrification.

THE + OF SEACHEM DENITRATE 1 L

In the reef aquarium, live rock removes nitrate through anaerobic denitrification. SEACHEM DeNitrate 1 L removes nitrate by the same process. Efficiency is amplified because placed in the filter, water is forced to pass through this porous SEACHEM DeNitrate material. Like living stones, anaerobic conditions are achieved by porosity and oxygen depletion through the aerobic process at the surface. Excessive flow should therefore be avoided, as they may impede the development of an adequate anaerobic environment to support denitrifying bacteria.
SEACHEM DeNitrate 1 L is also an excellent support for aerobic nitrification and it makes an ideal biological filtration mass for all filters. At high flow rates (over 400 L/h) it will function as an aerobic filter only. At slow flow rates (less than 200 L/h) it will function as both an aerobic filter and an anaerobic denitrification filter.

HOW TO USE SEACHEM DENITRATE 1 L?

For best results, SEACHEM DeNitrate should be well placed to ensure the flow of water through it, for example in a filter or in a fluidized bed reactor without exceeding a flow rate of 200 L/h. If higher flow rates are unavoidable, use SEACHEM Matrix or SEACHEM Pond Matrix for a pond. It is best to rinse it before using it to remove as much dust as possible. Once SEACHEM DeNitrate has been installed, nitrate concentrations should begin to drop within a few days to gradually stabilize at a concentration of approximately 4-5 mg/L nitrate. As long as nitrate levels remain under control, the product is not depleted. 500ml of SEACHEM DeNitrate treats approximately 100-200L, depending on initial nitrate concentration and bioburden current. The dosage should be sufficient to remove the nitrate at a rate faster than the rate of formation. If nitrate levels are initially high, they should be reduced to less than 20 mg/L with water changes.
