Information on algae treated with Algisin

Algae are simple plant organisms that lack leaves, stems, and roots. In a pond, they compete with aquatic plants for oxygen, nutrients, and light. Unlike plants, they reproduce at a much faster rate, which can cause various problems, especially in ponds populated with fish. There are two main types of algae: floating algae and filamentous algae.

Floating algae , microscopic and unicellular, make the water green and cloudy, reducing the visibility of fish and depriving plants of light essential for their growth. To eliminate these algae, you can use Algadrex , or opt for a weekly preventive treatment with BactoClear , which limits their proliferation and blocks the growth of new algae.

Filamentous algae , on the other hand, grow rapidly in clear water exposed to sunlight. They can invade aquatic plants, affecting their health and putting a strain on the pond pumps. After treatment with Algisin , it is essential to prevent their return. Regular use of Colombo BiOx helps to keep a pond clean in a natural and sustainable way, reducing the risk of reinfestation by filamentous algae.

Algae can also alter water parameters, such as pH and hardness, which is detrimental to plant growth. To restore this balance, it is recommended to use products such as Colombo KH+ or GH+ , which promote a healthy and optimal environment for your plants and aquatic ecosystem.

Precautions for use

Warning:

Aquatic plants: Some aquatic plants may be affected by Algisin treatment: waterweed, pondweed, water lily. However, they will recover their initial state very quickly.

After using Algisin, you must remove the dead algae, with Colombo Bactuur Clean or for larger quantities with a net. When dead algae are not removed, you risk decreasing the oxygen level (decomposition).

Effect on other animals: Pets and birds also drink pond water containing these products; it can be assumed that if fish swim in it, it cannot be harmful to animals that drink it. However, it would be more prudent to give water in a bowl to pets (dogs and cats) accustomed to drinking pond water during treatment.

Instructions for use

  • For 5000 ml buckets, 1 cup (150 ml) per 3000 litres of pond water.
  • Two treatments are necessary for optimum results: treat again after 14 days.
  • Mix the product in a bucket or watering can, then spread the mixture over all the water in the pond.
  • Do not filter with carbon or zeolite; ozone equipment must be disconnected during treatment.

In general, it can take up to 2 weeks before Algisin has a visible effect. As with all pond treatments, Algisin works best at temperatures above 10°C. Pond filtration and UV filters can continue to operate during an Algisin treatment.
