INSTRUCTIONS:

There will be air present just below the plunger of 2ml and 1ml syringes. This is air that was present between the end of the plastic tip and the plunger. DO NOT attempt to remove this air, for example by repeatedly purging the syringe.

  • Using the 2 ml syringe, add 2 ml of the water to be tested into the test vial. For lower accuracy but a lower number ñ F ï ap add 1 ml of water instead of 2 ml.
  • Add 1 spoon of Ca-1 (low precision: 1/2 spoon).
  • Fit the small plastic cone firmly onto the 1 ml syringe. Fill this syringe with Ca-2 reagent (make sure the tip of the cone is constantly immersed in the Ca-2 reagent until the bottom end of the black part of the plunger is exactly on the 1.00 ml mark.
  • Add 0.6 ml of reagent at once (lower end of plunger at 0.4 ml). Shake for 5 seconds. The color should now be pink. For low resolution mode 0.3 ml (lower end of plunger at 0.7 ml).
  • Add the Ca-2 reagent drop by drop to the water in the test vial. Swirl for a second or two between each drop. Continue until the color of the mixture changes from pink to blue. Once the color changes to purple, you will need 1 to 2 drops to get the blue color.
  • Hold the syringe in front of you with the cone facing upwards, and read the position of, this time, the upper end of the black part of the plunger. The syringe has graduations of 0.01 ml. Read the Calcium value found using the reading table.

If you chose low precision, multiply the result found by two.
