How does Proaquatest CO2/pH work?

This permanently displayed test shows the aquarist at any time the pH and the CO2 content of the water in his aquarium by means of colouring. It can therefore see 24 hours a day if the pH is in the optimal zone and if the plants have enough CO2 (essential nutrient) during the day.

The dissolved CO2 in the aquarium water diffuses through the air column into the long-term test container and dissolves in the indicator liquid therein. This gives you a specific pH which changes the color of the liquid indicator. The color corresponds to a particular pH value and, depending on the carbonate hardness of the water, you can see if the resulting CO2 content is too high, too low or optimal. In addition to CO2, another pH-lowering or pH-raising substance is added to the aquarium water (In the case of minus pH), this does not affect the liquid indicator, since it cannot diffuse through the air column in long-term testing. Therefore, the displayed pH value is incorrect. It is displayed correctly only when the water contains no pH-affecting substances other than CO2.

How to use Proaquatest CO2/pH?

Long-term test to monitor fertilizers: Reagents are poured into the test equipment and attached to the glass inside the aquarium with a suction cup. Compare the reagent color with the sticker color scale and note the value.

On the JBL/Themes Aquarium website you will find detailed information on water analyzes and solutions to problems.

Contains: 1 permanent CO2-pH test, indicator container with suction cup, 1 reagent (+1 refill) and self-adhesive color chart. Reagent refills and indicators available separately.

By design, the test is somewhat slower, as the CO2 gas must first "wander" through the air column of the test container to the liquid indicator before it can be labeled. Therefore, it may take an hour for the test to first display the current CO2 content of the aquarium water.

Recommended CO2 content:

Fresh water (Community Aquarium): 15-35 mg/l Aquarium Malawi Tanganyika: 4-10 mg/l

Aquarium planting with few fish (aquascape): 20-35 mg/l.
