ARID N18 by Pax Bellum, is a macroalgae reactor, patented by the Pax Bellum brand. Innovation is at the heart of this device , the reactor uses macroalgae to function as an adjustable nutrient export mechanism . With its unique design, a coaxial LED light tube to maximize light penetration and efficiency is integrated.

The tube and flange design of the device serves to isolate the algae from atmospheric CO2, effectively limiting the carbon source for the algae to that which is breathed in by the organisms in the aquarium. It is a self-regulating device that eliminates the accumulation of organic carbon (yellowing of the water). The ARID is analogous to a lung for the aquarium, supersaturating the aquarium with the oxygen created by the algae as they breathe while removing excess CO2. Pax Bellum recommends running the ARID on a "daylight reversal" cycle (i.e. opposite of the display tank), which balances the the natural day/night pH swing that occurs, and to maintain high levels of dissolved oxygen throughout the night when the display aquarium lights are off and photosynthesis has ceased.

Can be placed in the slop if the top power supply is kept above water. It is highly water resistant, but submersion is not recommended. As with any electrical device, be careful and always unplug it when working in the settling area.
